#HelloNeighbourChallenge

Take our pledge to help tackle loneliness in your local community by helping a neighbour in need

One act of kindness can make the world a less lonely place.

Join the #HelloNeighbour Challenge

As part of Nextdoor's #HelloNeighbour Challenge to tackle loneliness and bring neighbours together,
I will spend
1 hour a week until the end of the year helping a neighbour in need, by...

(e.g invite a neighbour over for tea)

Share your commitment by clicking the button or pasting the message above in Nextdoor.

Our recent survey found that 50% of people have experienced loneliness in the last year. We want to change this.

The smallest of actions can mean everything to a neighbour in need. Whether it’s a chat over coffee, a walk in the park, or a simple ‘hello’ in the street, these small steps can make the world of difference to someone feeling isolated or alone.

So, this Christmas why not make a positive change in your community to help tackle loneliness? Join our #HelloNeighbour Challenge and pledge to spend an hour a week until the end of the year supporting a neighbour in need.

How do I get involved?

If you’d like to help make your community a less lonely place, here’s how to get involved in the challenge.

When neighbours start talking, good things happen

Zoe · Leigh-on-Sea neighbour

“I recently moved home and decided to join Nextdoor to connect with my new neighbours. It's made me realise how important relationships with those living closest to you are.

"We've since become friends with an elderly couple nextdoor. My two year old daughter, Bea, bakes them cakes and they send her the sweetest thank you notes. I know they don't have family nearby and rarely have visitors, so Bea and I make sure we pop by to say hello, check they're ok and help them with anything they need.

"They know we're looking out for them and equally they're looking out for us, and there's nothing more beautiful than that."

Our Good Neighbour Award Winner, Jan used Nextdoor to set up a social group to tackle loneliness and isolation in her neighbourhood of Crowhill, Nuneaton.

Jim who attends the group told us "Thanks to Jan, I have been saved from a life of loneliness. Twice a week I now meet with 30 people who I can now call my friends.

"Whether it's to play mini golf, go out for a walk or simply to have a cuppa in the local pub. Nextdoor has helped to bring people together - it's given me a new lease of life, laughter but most importantly friendship.”
